Who is YourKeyCoach?
“I’d rather regret the things I did, then regret the things I haven’t done”.
Lucille Ball
This was my High School senior quote written below my yearbook picture. Class of 2012. This quote still apply to me today, 10+ years later. This quote means a lot to me and reminds me that its okay to take risks, do the things I want to do, because I only have one life and whatever decision I make, I will learn from it.
When I look back at the last 10 years of my life, I’ve taken a lot of risks. Each decision I’ve made from leaving jobs and starting new ones, moving cities and leaving things that no longer bring me joy - each moment was a risk. Without any of those moments I wouldn’t be where I am today or who I am today and I love what I’ve done so far in my life and where I’m at right now.
A Journey of Transformation
My name is Keanna. I’ve been in the tech space since 2016, in the recruiting space since 2018. Growing up I was always all on the computer, whether it was playing spider solitaire, pinball, roller coaster tycoon, sims, habbo, aol chat rooms, using aim, creating my myspace page, or doing a school project - since I was 8 years old my after school routine was to hop on my computer and be on there for hours. I was also my parents tech support - always fixing remotes, phones, printers, etc. I just loved technology and electronics which is why I gravitate to the tech space now.
From Facebook to Google: A Tech Odyssey
Right after college, my first job was at the Facebook Health Center. I loved being around people that were working on cool tech projects, and I would build rapport with the patients at the health center since they were Facebook employees to learn more about what they did at Facebook. I ended up pivoting to recruiting because I wanted to continue the conversation with candidates specifically engineers that were looking for their new role in tech.
I landed a role at Google in 2018 where I was a recruiting coordinator, scheduling interviews for software engineer candidates. Within 10 months, I was offered a role on the University Recruiter team, helping college new grads that had degrees in Computer Science land their first full time role. Their excitement about Google was something that brought me so much joy. To be able to guide these brilliant college students through the interview process all the way to offer accept - their first role at the best tech company in the world was such a privilege something I will never forget.
That role also brought me to Austin, TX - my first big move. Austin has a special place in my heart and I am so thankful for my time there.
Embracing Change and Gopuff
I was at Google for 2 years, and moved to a start up called Gopuff where I leveled up my recruiting experience for 2.5 years. The start up life is not for the weak - I definitely learned more about myself and what I am capable of in this role. I wore multiple hats and had to reinvent the wheel several times. Without that experience though, I wouldn’t ever have thought that entrepreneurship was for me.
Now in 2023 - I had to pivot. Being affected by the layoffs was not a surprise, but all good things come to an end right?
A New Beginning as a Career Coach
So here I am, approaching the end of 2023. I now have my own business called YourKeyCoach where I specialize in career coaching that launched recently in September. My mission is to unlock everyone’s potential by guiding them through their job search journey from start to finish.
I help people write their resumes, prepare for upcoming interviews, and how to negotiate their salary. I truly love this side of the recruiting experience because I get to use everything I’ve learned from my recruiting experience and share my knowledge with others on how to land a new role. I think everyone should invest in themselves and one way to do so is to have a coach that can be there to hold your hand in whatever that may be - health, life, or career.
Beyond the Desk
Outside of my career experience, I really enjoy traveling. Growing up I traveled a lot. My dad worked for United, so we had free flights. My mom is Filipino so we visited the Philippines every year since I was born.
Fun fact: I was born there as well, so literally traveling since I was in my mom’s womb. Since then i’ve visited over 20 countries, and now I am currently living in Mexico City (CDMX). I came to CDMX for the first time in 2021 for 5 days after a break up solo and it was the best trip. I had a coworker who kept telling me about CDMX and how it was a hidden gem and I had to see if for myself.
This place is magical - from the people, architecture, food - I could live here forever. I ended up putting my things in storage and moving here in Nov 2022, and here I am almost a year later and time flew by and I’m still so happy to be here.
The Next Chapter
As I approach the next chapter of my life - my 30s, I can honestly look back at my 20s and say that it has been such a great experience. I did a lot, met great people, visited beautiful places, but I also failed, met people I never want to see again, and learned from my mistakes. Now, as a new entrepreneur, I’m ready to take my business to the next level, help as many people as I can, and live my best life working from wherever and continuing the digital nomad life.
